Toronto to Detroit

We got up and out early on Sunday to make it down to Detroit for an afternoon game.

The drive from Toronto to Detroit was pretty uneventful, I think we stayed on one highway the whole time.

We got to Windsor, Canada and went through a tunnel and under the Detroit River, went through boarder security and we were in Detroit.

The hotel we stayed at was right near the water, across the street from the GM Headquarters. As we pulled in Cesar and Diego were there. They helped us unload and we all got settled in the room.

I think I remember picking this hotel because it had access to the Downtown People Mover, but I didn't know how nice and easy that was going to be. Like the Disneyland Monorail, it picked us up in our hotel, was free, and dropped us off a block from Comerica Park. So getting to a stadium doesn't get any easier than that.

We picked up ticket in section 144 which was at the left field foul pole. The stadium was pretty cool. Large walkways, cool statues, a Ferris Wheel for kids (it was a long line when we walked by), but it was also a day that was VERY HOT. And we were square in the sun, no shade anywhere around. So that meant a sunburn on the head and neck.

The Twins won 5-0 behind a 1-hitter by Bailey Ober.

To get out of the sun a little we went and got in line so the kids could run the bases, so we were near the front of the line. Check off another field the boys got to walk on and run the bases.

I was shocked at how green and clean Detroit was. I was expecting a real industrial city with lots of factories, smokestacks, pollution and just blah, but it wasn't. Very surprising.

We had a quick bite to eat at Applebees, then it was up to bed and on to the next city.
