Well, he certainly was in no
rush to get here. He was over a week late and even when we went to the
hospital to be induced he fought to stay in as long as he could.
We arrived at the hospital on
Wednesday, May 25 around 6:00 in the evening with the thought that even
though it was later in the day, he may still be a 25th baby. HAHA, yeah
right.
We moved to the 26th and there wasn’t
much going on in terms of dilation, but still, it had to be the 26th
right? Steph got the epidural for the pain. They said things were
progressing, slowly but surely. They even set up all the delivery tools
and such. And yet morning turned into the afternoon. Afternoon turned
into evening. And then the evening turned into night. Still nothing.
So with nothing happening around
9:00pm I thought I’d make a run to get some food. Well, wouldn’t you
know it. I barely got out of the elevator and I got a text that said
“My water just broke.” So it was back up to the room. This was it. The
kid was on his way...sort of.
The pain was getting pretty intense
and they had to up the strength of the epidural. Steph was still only
dilated 6-7 cm. But with the water being broke things were about to
start flying by (or so I thought). He took his time and soon the 26th
turned into the 27th.
At about 4:10 in the morning, it was
time to push. Steph did awesome. About 40 minutes of pushing and out
he popped. It was no wonder that things took so long. It wasn’t that he
didn’t want to come out, but at just under 10 lbs he was in there
pretty tight.
And at 4:52am, with a little bit of
dark hair on top of his head, 10 fingers and 10 toes, and weighing in at
9 lbs 11 oz Lukas Phillip Kleinheinz was born.
So it was long, it was painful (mostly for Steph) but in the end it was great.
Ellie was able to visit a few hours after he was born and she took right to being a big sister.
It was a lot of fun sharing the experience with family
and friends via Facebook and Twitter and we look forward to sharing him
with everyone very soon!
I must say that the care we got from the time we arrived, to right now has been amazing. All of the nurses and doctors have been incredible, it really was a joy to deliver at Kaiser Santa Clara again!
