Well, I managed to nearly skip blogging for the entire month
of February. Not that that was the plan, it just happened. And I’d like to say
it was due to tons of stuff going on, but looking back, not so much.
We did take our trip to Disneyland,
which as always was A LOT of fun. Each trip we’ve taken has been slightly
different, and kept us very entertained.
Kristin and Jason took Hannah and Freddy to Disneyland for the first time the week before we went
down, so I was able to show Ellie the pictures they were posting on
Twitter. So when we got to the airport
(which now Ellie only equates to going to Disneyland.
She’s going to be so disappointed when we go to the airport for vacation and
end up somewhere else besides Disneyland.) and
told Ellie where we were going, she thought she was going down to meet up with
Hannah and Freddy. Although slightly bummed that she wasn’t going to visit Disneyland with H & F, she got over it.
We flew in early on Saturday and were in the park by about
11:00 a.m. Instead of just getting pictures with the characters, this time
Ellie wanted an autograph book. So we picked up one of those and she got every
page filled with signatures. She was pretty stoked!
Highlighting the trip was Ellie's adventures on Tower of Terror and Space Mountain. She loved them. I think because she knew Hannah rode them and she enjoyed them.
Once again, we stayed across the street at the Carousel Inn
(@Carouselinn). Good stay, but
the hotel really needs to upgrade their TVs and TV service.
Backing up to earlier in February, the football season
concluded with a fun Super Bowl. The Giants beat the Patriots…again. The only
thing that would have made it more fun was if the 49ers were in it. And they
were one fumbled punt away from going. I don’t want to relive it, but suffice
it to say, after getting over the loss in the NFC Championship Game, I really
enjoyed their rise back to glory in 2011!
As an added bonus, I can put away my “49er Sunday clothes.”
See, back in October when the 49ers were playing the Eagles. A game they were
given no chance to win. The 49ers hadn’t shown that they were any good yet. The
Eagles were the dream team thanks to all their offseason signings. The Niners were
playing their second East Coast game in a row. They had no chance. And at
halftime that’s what it seemed, they were down 20-3.
I was upset, per usual when the 49ers were losing – rewind,
before the game started, since it was an early game I simply threw on some tan
Old Navy shorts (which had a hole just below the zipper) and one of my 49ers
shirts. So at halftime I went to the bathroom, this is when I first noticed the
hole in my shorts. Then I realized that I had put my boxers on backwards that
day (I rarely have good fashion days, but this was even bad for me). I was
about to flip my boxers around and get a new pair of shorts, then I thought,
“maybe I’ll leave them reversed and that will mean the Niners fortunes will be
reversed.” That’s the kind of thinking I have during football season.
The Niners end up winning, 24-23. So the clothes worked. So I
figured I’d wear the exact same thing for the next game, they won. Wear the same
thing the next Sunday, they won. Are you seeing the pattern here? Old Navy
shorts with a hole in them, same red 49er shirt and the same boxers worn
backwards (yes everything was washed during each week). I wore the same thing
every Sunday, and only on Sunday, all the way to 13-3, and the NFC Championship
game. FUN YEAR!
Jumping around again. After we got back from Disneyland, it was Steph’s birthday weekend, which
happened to fall on President’s Day. So we did a few fun things. One kind of
fun thing, but not really a birthday item, was we bought the furniture for the
kids’ playroom – a sofa (sofabed), two book shelves, a small art table and a
couple small chairs. We did the shopping at IKEA in Palo Alto and afterwards we headed over to
Half Moon Bay. While making the drive, Ellie said she started to feel sick. So
we pulled over at Pastorino Farms, which is owned by my friend Scott and his
family. It is one of the giant pumpkin farms you see in the fall. As luck would
have it, Scott was there hosting a birthday party, so we were able to catch-up
with him which was nice. Ellie rode a pony, visited the little petting zoo,
then we were off to the beach.
Got to the beach and the weather was great. We hung out for
a little while. Ellie and I played catch and she did some batting. She’s
getting ready for t-ball which starts later this week.
Then on Monday, Steph’s actual birthday, she thought we were
staying home and I was going to cook. Which is what I let her think all the way
up until 3:45 when I told her to “go get ready,” we had reservations at 5:00. I
didn’t tell her where. We drove over to Maggiano’s at Santana Row. When we
walked in, her brother John and Christiane were there which was a surprise to
her. Then Jack and Haydee got there. So I think she was surprised, and happy, because
she said before we left, “I was really looking forward to just staying in and
having you cook steak.”
This was the mess in front of Kristin and Katelyn |
With all that said, there were a few other tidbits. We went
to the OGCC for the Crab Feed dinner and you would have thought it was the
first time out to dinner for some of us. Kristin’s area got a little messy…My
hockey class is going well. After wanting to sell all my stuff after the second
class, everything started to come together a little more. I’m still not good,
but at least I don’t look like Bambi on the ice for the first time…Hopefully
shorter, quicker things on the blog for the month of March.
