This and That as September comes to a close

The beginning of September brought school and soccer.

Ellie, entering 3rd grade. Lukas, pre-K. And Lukas was more than excited to tell you it's Pre-K, not preschool.

Soccer also is underway. Ellie is once again playing up a year so she can play with her friends, and be coach by John Rahbar. Lukas is in year one, and his coach has very little clue about soccer. I can say that, because I am the coach.

Must like softball, I received an email saying Lukas was on a team, but the team had no coach. And until someone stepped up we couldn't practice or play. Since it was soccer I tried to stay away, but at Lukas' age there are only 6 kids on a team, so there wasn't a big pool of coaches to pull from. So I said I'd do it. I recruited Cesar and Isela to sign up Diego, then recruited Cesar to help coach. And when I say coach, I mean, heard cats. Although it is a U6 team, they allow 4-year-olds, and we have 3 of them - Lukas, Diego and Dylan. We also have Ian Denny, he's our stud. He's by far the most aggressive in going after the ball, and he knows what to do with it once he gets it.

So needless to say, soccer has been an adventure. I never know what team is going to show up. The one that would rather sit and eat snacks, or the one that comes charging after the ball. But it's clear, having a uniform and getting snacks is the best part of U6 soccer for these kids.

By the way, our team name is the Panthers. Why you might ask? Because that is currently Lukas' favorite football team.

I set up the xBox and put in Madden for Lukas to play one day, and he became infatuated with the Panthers. Not sure if it was the logo, or the colors, or what, but he's big Panthers fan right now. And he really wants to be a linebacker for the Panthers, because that's the guy who gets to tackle everyone. So for now, it's a house divided, 49ers and Panthers.

And in addition to school and soccer, we've been staying very busy with other "stuff."

Ellie and Steph went to Texas for Marlo's baby shower, so that means a boys weekend for Lukas and I. And since it was the first weekend of football, we survived just fine.

We also hit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with our Softball Family over Labor Day. The kids enjoyed the rides, and we just enjoyed the fun day. But it was HOT!!!

And we took in Friday Night Lights at Levi's Stadium. We met up with Mimi, Ian and Scott and and walked from their house to Levi's. We watched a couple high school games, the kids got to dance and have their photo up on the Jumbotron, and had our share of popcorn and other stadium food.

And September is also Ellie's birthday month, so she enjoyed her day with a few of her friends (Sophia, Olivia, Aimee, Sophie & Gabby). Lunch at Armadillo Willy's (because she wanted ribs), then hit the waterslides at Golfland in San Jose, which were surprisingly very fun! Then cake and pizza back at the house. And all of that turned into Fireball Horse, complete with Cesar falling out of a chair reaching for a rolling basketball. Good Times!!!
