Lukas The Living Legend

Lukas is just finishing his fall baseball season, so probably time to put it on the blog.

After really enjoying his Little League season (much more than I did for reasons off the field) and falling in love with everything about baseball, he wanted to play more baseball. He was pretty much done with soccer, so it was a natural extension to try Fall Ball.

We went to a workout with the Living Legends, because I knew a little bit about the organization, and it was right here in Santa Clara.

After the first workout, Lukas liked most of it, but part of the workout is two big laps around a few baseball fields and he didn't like it. In fact, he was in tears because he was the last kid to finish the running.

He wanted to go back the next workout and was offered a spot on the 10U team. About a week into it Lukas came off the field one practice in tears, he just couldn't improve his running in his opinion. Came in last by a large margin and just wasn't having fun when it came to that part of practice. He said he didn't know if he could be a Living Legend anymore.

We told him he had to stick with it through the fall since this is what he chose to do, and we told him if he kept working on things it would get easier.

What do you know, we do know something, because a couple practices later he came out of practice with a big smile on his face. Why? He said he was no longer the last guy running. He was able to catch up to a few people and finished in a group.

From then on he couldn't wait to get to practice every Wednesday and Friday, or the tournament games. And despite the very, VERY tough season when it came to wins and losses, he has been having so much fun. It is so fun to see his love of baseball grow!

He's been mainly playing 1B, but has wanted to play more catcher. He again worked at it, and got a chance.

His improvement this fall has been leaps and bounds. And in the most recent tournament, this happened! His very first HR! He hit two this game, the second one was even farther and there wasn't a play at the plate, but I didn't have video running on that one.

He has one more tournament, but more than anything I'm so proud of how he's battled back and worked after those first couple very tough practices that resulted in tears. But he worked hard, not only at practice, but in the backyard on his fielding and hitting. He's certainly the right to celebrate his accomplishments this fall.
