Baseball Road Trip 2025 Days 1-2

This year, the boys and I — Lukas, Cesar, and Diego—are back at it again with another epic baseball adventure! We're hitting the road for the Upper Midwest, soaking in four games across three awesome cities: Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Chicago. And, as a bonus, we're even making a pit stop at the Water Park Capital of the World, the Wisconsin Dells!

Travel Plan -- San Jose to Denver to Minneapolis.
Stayed at the Westin Downtown.

DAY 1

Pretty uneventful day of travel, except for the last 20 minutes into Denver for our layover, and the first 20 minutes leaving Denver. It was a tad bumpy for Cesar's liking, which led to some humous facial expressions.

Minneapolis was certainly a "big city" -- all concrete, buildings on top of buildings, no parks, stadium smack-dab in the middle of downtown. The stadium downtown was actually nice, we were able to walk to the stadium (actually we took e-scooters around town in the morning, before riding over) and back. But, not many food options open late at night, so we ordered pizza and wings from a local place, had them delivered and made that our dinner, despite it being midnight.

Notes:  I'm guessing a big party of some sort was happening on our floor as it smelled like heavy perfume and lotion all down the hall...Inside Pool was like a tin can dropped into the floor, but the boys didn't care as they went right in...

DAY 2

Another big day, breakfast, game, hit the road for Wisconsin.

We walked around downtown, and I'm guessing not many people live downtown or go out in the mornings, because the streets were empty of people and cars. We hit a local breakfast place with was a version of southern breakfast as they had fried catfish and waffles, chicken and biscuits, and grits. I went with the eggs and grits, Lukas and Diego were less adventurous and went with a normal eggs and bacon. Cesar went with the Grits Bowl. Fun place to start the day.

We then grabbed a couple Lime Bikes and Lime Scooters and cruised around a little before ending up a the stadium that was about .3 miles away.

The Stadium was nice. All the gates were numbered after their past great players, such as Gate 34 for Kirby Puckett. Boys took pictures with the Kirby statue and the new Joe Mauer statue. We were REALLY lucky with our seats. If our seats were in the sun, it might have been unbearable to sit there for the whole game because of the heat in the 90s and the humidity not far behind, but ours were in the very first shaded row. Good seats -- Section 115, right behind homeplate.

The game was entertaining. Twins vs Nationals, and the Nationals got off to a quick start with a HR on the first pitch of the game. Twins also cracked a HR a couple innings later. Fun Fact, Roger Clemens' son, Kody, was in the lineup for the Twins. Nationals opened up the scoring and cruised to a 7-2 win. Crowd was pretty good, into the game and friendly. Food, I got the recommended Kramarczuk Sausage, with sauerkraut and grilled onions. Really good!

After the game, we walked back to the hotel, hopped in the car, and hit the road for Wisconsin. We zipped out of Minneapolis, crossed the mighty Mississippi River, drove through St. Paul, and set our sights on the Wisconsin Dells.

We made a quick pit stop at Culver's, a Midwest burger and shake joint that came highly recommended. I've gotta say, the burger was pretty solid, and the onion rings were amazing. Of course, when in Wisconsin, you have to try the cheese curds, so I did! Then it was back on the road for an easy drive through Wisconsin's endless cornfields. We rolled into the Kalahari Resort around 8:00 p.m.

We walked around the resort to check out the indoor and outdoor water parks. Then, up to the room to relax and prepare for the water fun on Monday.
