Philadelphia, PA → Washington, DC

Philadelphia, PA → Washington, DC

Big day today. Busy day. Five-states-in-one-drive kind of day.

Kicked things off channeling our inner Italian Stallion with the run up the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps to pay respects to the Rocky statue. Non-negotiable Philly tourist law, look it up.

Then we time-traveled back 250+ years: Independence Hall, Constitution Hall, the Liberty Bell, and a stop by Ben Franklin's grave to say hi. The tour took us through the first Senate Chambers, the spot where George Washington took his second Presidential oath, and the room where power passed from Washington to John Adams. Basically the original series finale/spinoff premiere.

Lunch stop: Red Owl Tavern. Solid choice, would recommend.

Then it was back in the car for the Great Five-State Dash to DC — Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and a final hop across the river into Virginia to drop off the rental. Which turned into its own little adventure, because we somehow drove straight into an airport EMPLOYEES ONLY zone looking for the return lot. So if you've ever wondered exactly where NOT to return your Avis rental, congratulations, I am now your go-to source.

Capped off the night at Old Ebbitt Grill — DC's oldest bar, slinging drinks since 1856 — with a dinner that absolutely earned us that 10-minute walk back to the hotel.

Big day planned tomorrow. Stay tuned.
