Back to baseball today. Nationals vs. Blue Jays.
Started with breakfast at the hotel, then channeled my inner Betsy Ross for some emergency jersey surgery — a few patches had started peeling off the back, not helped one bit by the heat and humidity doing their best to unstitch everything we own.
Hopped the Metro to the ballpark, which honestly deserves a shoutout — ridiculously easy to navigate and $2 a ride is about as good as it gets. Did our usual lap around the park, swung by the team store so the boys could load up on souvenirs, then went in search of food.
We had club seats this time, so this was NOT your standard ballpark fare. Steak bites, pesto salmon, a full breakfast buffet (pancakes, country potatoes, breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs — at a baseball game!), a nacho bar, pizza, a dessert bar stacked with cupcakes, brownies, cakes, and ice cream bars, plus all the hot dogs and sausages you could want. And of course, whatever you wanted to drink. We took full advantage. No regrets.
Settled into section 120, just off home plate, and got ready for the game.
Things moved fast early — both pitchers were dealing. The Nats grabbed a 1-0 lead, and for a minute it felt like their day. Then the Blue Jays dropped 5 runs across the next couple innings to close it out 5-2.
Back on the Metro, back to the hotel, and everyone needed a shower — all the heat had us sweating straight through every layer we were wearing.
Again, took some Lime Scooters up Pennsylvania Ave. and down to the waterfront for dinner at Hank’s Oyster House. Really fun water front area.
Tomorrow is another day of history and landmarks.
