Ball All The Time...So It Seems

Shortly after returning from Lake Placid, we repacked the jackets and gloves and went to Park City, UT for the US Luge Nationals.

Nationals was intense, and not forgiving. Competing against the very best lugers the US has to offer was a great challenge for Ellie. She held her own for most of the week. Had good clean runs, and after the first day of competitions was #6 overall and #1 on her team. The second day wasn't as kind. She crashed on her first run, taking her out of the 2nd day of the competition and the overall weekend.

She was disappointed for sure, but talked about how she "wanted to go for it" which meant pushing the envelope of how fast she could go. Which, by the way, she went fast, she was the 3rd fastest women of the weekend. Clocking in at over 63 mph. Unfortunately crashing is part of the sport. A tough lesson for sure.

After the week in Utah we returned home and it was baseball and softball all the time.

Lukas is playing for the Westside Major Dodgers, and his team is having a really good year. Only 1 loss so far this year. He's one of the younger kids on the team, so he's not getting a ton of playing time, but he is getting a lot of reps with some really good players. He's also still playing for the Living Legends. For that team, he's one of the oldest on his team, so he enjoys a little more personal success, but less team success. So he's got a balance going this spring.

For Ellie, she' playing on the Mitty JV softball team. It took a little while for her to find her groove after coming back from Utah because the crash did injure her back. Again, she had some frustration, but has earned the starting catching spot, and has taken on a real leadership role on the team. The team is doing well, and Ellie is showing well, so overall it's been a great freshman year for her.

What else is going on? Just more baseball and softball planning.
