Baseball Road Trip - Angel Stadium

For Lukas' 11th birthday I designed a baseball journal for him that has all of the MLB stadiums, so he can document his travels to all the ballparks.

Boarding the flight. Game ready!
To go along with the journal we decided to do a boys trip to LA for a few baseball games. He initially wanted to go to Toronto (passport issue. He doesn't have one yet.), then Boston (flight costs got out of control before I could book it.) so LA it was.

We flew out of San Jose at 8:00 a.m., got into Orange County just after 9:00 a.m. and were at our hotel about 20 minutes later. Lukas might be my spirit animal when it comes to travel packing. He packed everything he needed on one side of a carryon-sized piece of luggage. I used the other side, and we were set. Both of us, everything we needed, one carryon.

We're staying at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott, which is less than a 5 minute walk to Angel Stadium. It actually takes longer to walk through the parking lot than it does walking from the hotel to the parking lot. We arrived at the stadium just after 10:00, which is when the ticket window opened. We got 2 lower level seats (Sec. 128, Row P, Seats 7 & 8). It worked out great that the Angels were playing the Blue Jays, one of Lukas' favorite teams currently. Our seats were down the right field line, in shallow RF, just beyond the Blue Jays dugout. Lukas was really looking forward to seeing Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but he didn't get the start, which was a little bit of a bummer. But Vlad did end up pinch hitting late in the game.

Entrance to Angel Stadium
The stadium was nice, nothing great and I'm not sure when it was last updated, but it wasn't outdated. Nice seats, open walkways, plenty of food options. And we went on a perfect So. Cal day. about 80 degrees and sunny. We were in the sun, and without a breeze the sun did make things a little warm, so I ended up with a little sunburn.

The game was an offensive explosion. It ended 11-10 with the Blue Jays getting the win (so Lukas was a happy camper at the end.). All those runs meant lots of pitching changes, 14 pitchers were used. So the runs, plus the pitching changes, added up to a very long game, 4 hours and 20 minutes, which is one of the reasons I got a little burned. Combine the game time, with the fact that we were there 2 hours before the game when the gates opened for warmups, plus almost an hour before that to get the tickets, and it all equals a very long day. But a ton of fun. And a great start to the Baseball Journal Road Trips. Shohei Ohtani hit 2 HRs, Bo Bichette hit a game tying HR in the 8th, a couple other HRs, and plenty of hits and baserunners.

Angel Stadium. Stadium 1 of the Ballpark Tour

Lukas had chicken nachos in an Angels helmet and bought a logo baseball, which seems to be his go-to souvenir at ballparks.

Tomorrow is a free day in So. Cal and we're thinking of going to Downtown Disney, or finding a Movie Studio Tour to take, and the day will be capped off at Dodger Stadium with a Dodgers game. So checkoff a second new stadium!
